Featured Accomplishments
In 2020, the California MBA successfully led the effort to defeat two potential devastating bills that would have had a dramatically negative impact on access to both residential and commercial/multifamily lending in our state.
- AB 2501 would have added significantly to the CARES Act, and given borrowers additional forbearance without a documented need, as well as potentially harming the value of loans by impairing the right of servicers to foreclosure in the future.
- SB 939 was aimed at commercial real estate owners, and would have placed a moratorium on commercial property evictions during the COVID-19 state of emergency, and would have abrogated contract law to benefit one company at the expense of another and the lack of rent payments could have pushed many into foreclosure.
